Mission to Heal is here to make healthcare sustainable and accessible.
Our organization is built on educational missions – we don’t do short term trips where we leave without providing any real support or resources. Instead, we deliver basic, intermediate, and specialty training to medical professionals in remote areas of the world. This allows them to treat patients in their own local setting, promoting healthier communities and a better quality of life for everyone.
Everyone who joins our missions takes on the role of teacher. Whether you have experience teaching in a healthcare setting, or this is your first time being a classroom leader, you can pass your skills along to others.
Our Method
Mission to Heal’s method is to meet local healthcare professionals in their own setting and adapt to the needs they encounter. We work closely with partner organizations to assess which regions would benefit from a mission, and then we communicate with those who work in the clinics to determine what types of cases and patients they see often.
This allows us to equip them with the best resources and knowledge to continue improving their community long after we’ve left.
We go where medical need is the greatest – which means we also have a considerable need for a variety of expertise. Find more information here on volunteering with Mission to Heal and see how you can join an upcoming mission.

Volunteer Commitments
We appreciate the dozens of volunteers who donate their time, talent, and energy to missions each year. As a nonprofit organization, Mission to Heal works in partnership with volunteers to ensure that the burden of cost is not transferred to the patients we serve.
M2H volunteers commit to:
1) Completing the online application, which includes submitting a $100 deposit
2) The Mission Volunteer Fee of $2,000 USD plus airfare.* This amount covers the cost of food, lodging, and transportation for the volunteer. It also goes towards necessary item for that particular missions, such as medical supplies and fuel for the Mobile Surgical Unit. Volunteers are responsible for the cost of airfare. Mission to Heal provides a fundraising toolkit and supports each volunteer through a personal fundraising website to help raise this amount.
3) Submitting a short reflection essay no later than 2 weeks after the mission’s completion
4) Participating in the tutorials with direction from your group leader
5) Committing to behave in a modest, respectful way and refrain from taking any actions that may upset the local communities we work with
*The Mission Fee has the following deadlines and requirements:
$100 with Mission Application (this is considered a non-refundable tax-deductible donation)
An additional $1,900 is due 30 days prior to mission departure
All donations to Mission to Heal, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, are tax-deductible, both for yourself and for others who support you.
All volunteers are required to either pay the fee or fundraise all or part of the $2,000 mission fee. The $100 from your application is included in this amount. The full amount is due 30 days prior to departure. If the total amount of $2,000 is not reached by fundraising, you may choose to make up the difference yourself; however, any amount that has been contributed to that point is non-refundable.
New for 2026, we are introducing back-to-back missions for the month of July. If you would like to volunteer for both missions, please indicate your interest on the application. The mission fee for back-to-back missions is $3,000.

Preparing For a Mission
-
We suggest that you travel as light as possible. The mission team will be moving around in-country with limited storage space. We may ask you to bring medical equipment and material in a separate checked bag on our behalf.
-
In most cases, yes. Visa requirements are determined on a country-by-country basis, and your mission coordinator will notify you of requirements and instruct you on the best way to apply for a Visa. This is the responsibility of each participant.

Mission to Heal strongly advises all participants to abide by the recommendations provided by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
-
Our lodging will be arranged by the local hosting organization for each country.
Do not expect to be housed in a motel with private rooms and individual beds. Please remember we are treating the “Furthest People First”.
Depending on the location, we may advise you to bring a thin, inflatable sleeping pad and a simple covering (light blanket or sheet) and a light sleeping bag.
-
Volunteers don’t need a lot. Consider bringing two changes of clothing and three pairs of undergarments to cover days where washing clothing is not an option. Be sure to bring laundry detergent in a plastic bag.
Please note that in some countries an exposed female leg is considered indecent. For formal occasions, dresses are appropriate for women and long pants are appropriate for men. Dresses should reach below the knee.
At work scrub suits are acceptable. Visit a scrub suit outlet to pick up a couple to bring with.
-
The mission team often sees a variety of cases on each trip. Most commonly, M2H deals with goiters (often performing thyroidectomy), hernia repair, and removing lipoma. Correcting burn SCAR contractures or congenital abnormalities like clefts is also common. M2H has also performed some ophthalmologic procedures and seeks to perform services related to Safe Motherhood. In short, it all depends on what patients we find!
